Franklin Gene Campbell, age 80, of Gap Mills, WV, went peacefully home to join Heaven’s choir in the early evening of Monday, April 22, 2019 while surrounded by his family.
Fraklin was born on March 29, 1939 to the late Harold Gordon and Josie (Shires) Campbell in Gap Mills, WV.
He was raised in Gap Mills, then moved briefly to Sperryville, VA, but soon returned home to Monroe County to live in Gap Mills where he raised his family to live the remainder of his earthly life.
Franklin was employed by Hercules in Covington, VA for 13 years, when he decided that he wanted to serve his county, community, and church. He became an auctioneer in 1970 and continued to enjoy his passion for the next 40 years. He also served Monroe County as a Field Deputy for the County Assessor, Monroe County Deputy Sheriff, Monroe County Board of Education as a Bus Driver, Monroe County Commissioner, and the Monroe County Solid Waste Management Board. Franklin also had a passion for singing the Gospel and for many years served Cokesbury United Methodist Church as Sunday School Superintendent and as a member of the choir. He was always available to help a neighbor or friend in need.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in his Heavenly trip by an infant son, Larry Franklin Campbell.
Cherishing his life and memories are his loving wife of 59 years, Patricia Baker Campbell of Gap Mills, WV; three sons, Keith Campbell and wife Cynthia of Gap Mills, WV, Jerry Campbell and wife Kelly of Union, WV, and Mark Campbell and wife Rebecca of Gap Mills, WV; one sister, Martha Ann Atkins of Aston, PA; two grandchildren that loved him dearly, Frankie R. Campbell and wife Tyisha of Sinks Grove, WV and Dylan R. Campbell of Gap Mills, WV; four step-grandchildren, Lori Thompson of Huntington, WV, Christina Walker of Ballard, WV, Jeanie Thompson of Huntington, WV, and Howard “Butch” Thompson of Christiansburg, VA; four great-grandchildren, Jaden M. Thompson of Gap Mills, WV, Gracelynn Hedrick, Paislee Campbell, and Logan Campbell all of Sinks Grove, WV; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
In celebration of his life, the family invites all his friends to the viewing at the Groves-Mann Funeral Home in Union, WV, Friday, April 26, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 27, 2019 at the funeral home with his brother and sister in Christ, Mark and Marva Smearman officiating.
Internment will follow in Carmel Cemetery at Gap Mills, WV.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, The Heart Association, Cokesbury United Methodist Church building fund, or a charity of your choice in Franklin’s memory.
Those wishing to send the Campbell Family online condolences or sign the online guestbook may do so by visiting www.groves-mann.com.
Arrangements by Groves-Mann Funeral Home in Union, WV.
