COVINGTON, Va. (VR) – On Thursday, November 6, the Alleghany Highlands Arts Council will present Patrick Dewane in his one-person play The Accidental Hero, at 7:00 pm in Curfman Hall at Covington Middle School.
The play is a one-person, multi-media show that tells the true story of Dewane’s grandfather, Lieutenant Colonel Matt Konop, a Czech-American soldier in World War II.  Lt. Col. Konop was a private man who rarely spoke about his service in WWII, even to his own family. After his death in 1983, his grandson, Patrick Dewane, discovered a trove of his grandfather’s secret wartime writings, photos, and rare film footage hidden in the family basement.
Dewane brings this captivating, true story to life by performing as his grandfather and taking on a dozen different roles, blending his masterful storytelling with the original archival footage and letters. The play is described as an enthralling, humorous, and deeply moving adventure that speaks to themes of heritage, identity, and the quiet courage of “The Greatest Generation.”
Tickets are $20 and can be purchased online at http://www.arts4allalleghanyhighlands.com or at the door the evening of the event.
As Veterans Day nears, the Arts Council wants to honor local veterans with free admission to this show. Any veteran from any era will attend as special guests.
This performance is presented with support from the Alleghany Foundation, the Virginia Commission for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts as well as the City of Covington, Town of Clifton Forge and County of Alleghany
