QUICKSBURG, Va (VR)- The Bath County Chargers are gearing up to kick off their football season with a highly anticipated matchup against the Stonewall Jackson Generals on Aug. 29 at Stonewall Jackson High School. The Chargers, coming off an impressive 11-1 campaign, are looking to continue their recent dominance over the Generals, who are seeking to rebound from a challenging season.

Last year, Bath County made a statement in their meeting with Stonewall Jackson, cruising to a decisive 42-6 victory. The Chargers’ offense was firing on all cylinders, while their defense stifled the Generals, allowing just a single touchdown. That win marked the second consecutive season in which Bath County had their way with Stonewall Jackson, further cementing their status as a powerhouse in the region.

The Generals, meanwhile, endured a difficult 2024-25 season, finishing with a 2-8 record. Their only victories came against Thomas Jefferson Science Technology High School and the Virginia Spartans football team. Despite their struggles, the Generals are hoping to turn the page and start the new season on a positive note, with the home crowd in Quicksburg providing a potential boost. Bath County’s success last season was highlighted by a perfect 4-0 record in their region, culminating in a Pioneer District championship. The Chargers advanced deep into the playoffs, ultimately falling to Grayson County in a lopsided contest.

Grayson County, the team that ended Bath County’s postseason run, went on to play in the state championship game, where they were defeated by Essex 20-0.

While the Chargers will be without their leading scorer from last year, who graduated in the spring, they return a significant portion of their roster.

Head coach Jake Phillips remains at the helm, and the majority of the assistant coaching staff is back as well, providing continuity and experience as Bath County aims for another successful season. The upcoming matchup promises to be a test for both teams. The Chargers are eager to prove that last year’s success was no fluke, even as they adjust to the loss of key players. The Generals, on the other hand, are determined to show improvement and give their fans something to cheer about after a tough season. Kickoff is set for Aug. 29 at Stonewall Jackson High School in Quicksburg. Fans are encouraged to come out and support their teams as the high school football season gets underway.

With both squads looking to make a statement, the stage is set for an exciting start to the year.
