COVINGTON, Va. (VR) - More than 50 local children turned out to audition for the Missoula Children's Theatre production of Rapunzel, arriving alongside the beloved Little Red Truck that has been a familiar sight in the Alleghany Highlands for years. During the weeklong residency, participants will learn fundamental acting skills before taking the stage for a full musical performance on Saturday at Curfman Hall. Despite a brief storm before the scheduled start, a large crowd turned out Saturday evening for One Fight Inc.'s Jammin' On The Jackson at Alleghany Outdoors. Concertgoers enjoyed food from Island Wheels Food Truck and Luca's Pizza while a DJ opened the event. Southwest Virginia psychedelic roots reggae band Father Sun took the stage before Lazy Man Dubb Band closed out the night with a lively performance. Photo: Christopher Mentz, VR 

Music Fills the Riverfront at Jammin’ On The Jackson

COVINGTON, Va. (VR) - National recording artist Glen Shelton made his annual stop in Covington on Saturday night as the Covington Parks and Recreation Summer Music Series continued. The free concert drew a strong crowd to enjoy an evening of live country music. Shelton performed a mix of his original songs along with popular country hits, entertaining those in attendance throughout the evening. The Summer Music Series continues through the end of August, with concerts remaining free to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair and enjoy the performances.
