This past July 4th, we celebrated the 249th anniversary of America’s independence. Our focus now turns to our nation’s 250th birthday, an extraordinary milestone in American history.
As Chairman of the Virginia American Revolution 250 Commission (VA250), I encourage you to visit the VA250 Mobile Museum, which will be making a special stop in Downtown Covington during the 47th Annual StreetScene Car Show from August 8–10. This unique traveling exhibit brings history to life, giving everyone a chance to connect with America’s story as we approach our country’s semi quincentennial.
Officially called “Out of Many, One”, this museum on wheels is housed in a quad-expandable tractor trailer and travels across Virginia. It shares significant stories from every corner of the Commonwealth and visits schools, museums, local events, and fairs to help people of all ages experience our history in an immersive and interactive way.
I’m proud to serve on this Commission, and equally proud to represent Virginia on the national stage alongside National Honorary Chair Carly Fiorina as part of the America250 Commission. Together, we’re working to promote Virginia’s leadership role in the founding of our country and help local committees put together events like this across the Commonwealth. Our goal is to make sure communities of all sizes can take part in this once-in-a-generation milestone in meaningful ways.
Thank you to the Alleghany VA250 Committee for their efforts bringing this experience to the region. Their work helps make sure that residents of all generations can explore Virginia’s revolutionary legacy up close.
I also want to recognize Volvo and its team at the Dublin, Virginia truck plant for building and providing the custom road tractor that makes this museum’s journey possible. In fact, demand has been so high that a second mobile museum is now in the works to reach even more communities during this period of reflection and celebration.
I hope everyone in the area will come check out the Mobile Museum. It’s more than just an exhibit; it’s a tribute to our past and a great reminder of what brings us together as Americans.
