Alton Elmore
Mr. Alton Lee Elmore, age 88, of Covington, died Friday, June 20, 2025, at LewisGale Hospital- Alleghany, Low Moor. He was the husband of the late Marguerette Frances McCauley Elmore who preceded in death in 2022.
Mr. Elmore was born July 29, 1936, in Alleghany County, the son of the late Ira Philip Elmore and Minie Eurie Persinger Elmore. A lifetime resident of this community, Alton was employed as a millwright by Westvaco for a number of years before his retirement. In his spare time, Alton loved using his dump truck and excavator to “move dirt” as well as riding around town in his Ford Broncos.
Mr. Elmore also enjoyed hunting, fishing and working in his garden. Most of all, he loved being in the mountains, watching out for the kids on Gordon Street and spending time with his family and friends laughing and enjoying life.
Mr. Elmore is survived by a son, Randy Lee Elmore of Covington; a daughter, Kathy Elmore Childs; a grandson, Jacob L. Elmore; two great grandchildren, Abby Elmore and Jake Elmore; a brother, Howard Elmore of Covington; a sister, Violet McCauley Elmore of Gainesville, FL; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Elmore was preceded in death by his brothers, Arthur Elmore, Wallace Elmore, Claude Elmore and Arlis Elmore.
A memorial service will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Friday, June 27, 2025, from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with Sheriff Kyle M. Moore officiating.
