Larry Noel Armentrout

Larry Noel Armentrout died at his residence in Alexandria, Virginia, on June 2, 2025.

Born in Covington, Virginia, August 18, 1940, he was predeceased by his parents, Paul Leonard Armentrout, Sr., and Marie Cronise Armentrout, and his brother, Paul Armentrout, Jr.

He is survived by his devoted sister-in-law, Joyce Armentrout, and many cousins and friends.

Larry graduated from Covington High School with the class of 1958 and earned both a BS and MA in education from James Madison University. His students, including journalist Jim Acosta, will remember him as their social studies teacher at Poe Middle School in Fairfax County, where he spent his teaching career and served as Department Chair.

Active in the Fairfax, Virginia, and National Education Associations, and their retired counterparts, he was especially proud to serve on the negotiating and government relations committees and enjoyed lobbying on behalf of both students and teachers.

For decades, he served on the Tyson’s Towers Board of Directors, a retirement housing facility begun by Fairfax educators, and served as a president and historian of the Fairfax County Retired Educators.

Donations in his memory may be made to the W. Harold Ford Scholarship Foundation, c/o Fairfax County Retired Educators, Inc., P. O. Box 682, Springfield, VA 22150.

Larry wanted a simple send-off, designating his friends, Karen Beasley and Kathy Davis, to scatter his ashes in a beloved site in Colorado.
