LYNCHBURG, Va. (VR) – The Alleghany Cougars track and field team wrapped up an impressive 2025 season with a strong performance at the VHSL Class 3 State Championships held at Liberty University. The Cougars showcased both individual excellence and team depth, earning multiple All-State honors and demonstrating the continued growth of the program.

Leading the way was rising senior Kiera Lowman, who captured her seventh VHSL state title with a commanding victory in the 3200-meter run. Already established as one of the top distance runners in the state, Lowman’s win adds to an already decorated career, with one more season still to come.

The Alleghany girls’ 4×800-meter relay team delivered a standout performance, earning 7th place and securing All-State recognition. The group’s determination and teamwork paid off as they battled a competitive field to finish among the top teams in Virginia.

On the boys’ side, the 4×400-meter relay team narrowly missed the podium with a 9th-place finish, turning in one of their strongest races of the year. Their effort highlighted the depth and competitive spirit of Alleghany’s sprint corps.

In the field events, Xavier Hayslett earned a 6th-place medal in the high jump after clearing 6 feet, continuing a strong postseason for the junior jumper.

Sprinters Ja’kara Heighter (100m), Maddox Wickline (400m), and the boys’ 4×100-meter relay team also posted solid performances, representing Alleghany with pride and contributing to a successful weekend overall.

Despite a few setbacks, the Cougars left Liberty University with much to celebrate. With a mix of veteran leadership and emerging young talent, the program has established itself as a consistent presence at the state level. Now the focus turns to summer conditioning and training for fall competition.
