FLOYD COUNTY, Va. (VR) – The Alleghany High School track team has given fans a season to remember! After a strong regular season, the team surged into the postseason with grit and determination, delivering one of the most impressive performances in recent school history at the Three Rivers District Championship.
The girls team made history by winning the District Championship — their first in nearly two decades. They dominated the competition, racking up an incredible 158 points, finishing 66 points ahead of the runner-up, Floyd County. Their victory was not just a win — it was a statement.
On the boys’ side, the Cougars also impressed, finishing as District runners-up with 92 points, just behind Floyd’s boys team. Their effort showcased the depth and resilience of Alleghany’s athletic program.
Together, the Alleghany boys and girls earned a staggering 20 District Champion titles, including individual and relay events. They added 15 second-place finishes and 9 third-place finishes, proving the team’s strength across the board.
With Districts behind them, the Cougars now turn their focus to Regionals and States. The team will be well-represented: 14 girls will compete in 23 events, and 8 boys will compete in 12 events.
Congratulations to all the athletes and coaches on a phenomenal season so far — and good luck moving forward. Well done, Cougars!
