LOW MOOR, Va. (VR) – The Alleghany Cougars girls tennis team had a busy start to the week as they hosted a Monday doubleheader against Glenvar and Floyd County at Clifton Academy. The Lady Cougars came out strong in their first match, dominating Glenvar with a convincing 8-1 victory, before falling 1-5 to a tough Floyd County squad later in the afternoon.
Against Glenvar, Alleghany’s singles lineup delivered a near sweep, with standout performances across the board. The doubles teams maintained the momentum, securing the win early and building valuable confidence heading into the second match.
The second half of the doubleheader presented a tougher challenge as Floyd County showcased their depth and consistency. Despite a hard-fought effort, Alleghany managed just one win, dropping the match 1-5.
On Tuesday, the Cougars were slated to take on Carroll County, but a forfeit from the opposing team gave Alleghany a 9-0 win by default, bringing a positive end to their regular season slate.
Now, with their eyes on postseason play, the Lady Cougars are set to host the first round of regionals on Friday, May 23 at 3:30 PM at Clifton Academy. As one of the top seeds, Alleghany hopes to use home court advantage and strong recent performances to propel them deeper into the playoffs. Come out and show these ladies some love.
