Guy Edgar Showalter

Guy Edgar Showalter, age 88, of Daleville, Virginia passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2025 at his residence surrounded by his two daughters, Annie and Denise.

He was born September 27, 1936 in Iron Gate, Virginia to the late Joseph Yount Showalter and Virginia Durham Showalter. He served in the United States Army from 1959-1962 and was a retired research technician for Hercules, Inc. in Covington. He was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Daleville. Guy enjoyed all sports, but especially loved baseball and basketball. He was also an avid hunter.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Montgomery Showalter; three sisters, Nancy Folks, Virginia “Jenny” Jo Showalter and Bobbie Slusher; three brothers, Richard, Jack and Tommy Showalter.

He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Wanda Moore Showalter of Mankato, MN; a daughter, Annie Zollinger of Daleville; a step son, Brian Lindell of Mankato, MN; four step grandchildren; ten step great grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews including two special nieces whom he considered more like daughters, Denise Brubaker and Debbie Morran; and special friend and neighbor, Mike Huffman.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 17, 2025 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Mr. Chris Fisher and Mr. J.D Williams officiating. Interment will be private and take place in Central Advent Christian Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday afternoon from 12:30 PM until time of service.

The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Wounded Warrior Program, https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org or to the Brain Injury Association of America, P.O. Box 7416, Merrifield, VA 22116-7416
