LEXINGTON, VA. (VR) – The Covington Middle School girls soccer team fought hard but ultimately fell short in a 4-2 loss to Lylburn Downing in a challenging match on Wednesday. Captain Emeri Brown was the standout performer for Covington, scoring both of the team’s goals. Brown’s efforts kept the game competitive, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the strong offensive push from the opposing team. In goal, the Cougars were supported by two stellar performances from their keepers. Ellie Flenner made five saves in the first half, keeping Covington in the game with some key stops. In the second half, Marley Aragones took over, recording four saves to fend off further scoring attempts. “Ellie and Marley both played incredibly well, and we’re proud of their efforts today,” said head coach Carlee Langford. “They gave us a chance to stay in the game, and that’s all you can ask for from your goal keepers.”
