Nominations Now Open for Virginia Highway Safety Awards

RICHMOND, Va. (VR) – The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles’ Highway Safety Office is now accepting nominations for the Virginia Highway Safety Awards, which recognize outstanding individuals and organizations for their contributions to improving highway safety across the Commonwealth. Nominations are being accepted for four prestigious award categories: the Trailblazer Award, Lifetime Achievement Award, Rising Star Award and the Law Enforcement Award.

“The Virginia Highway Safety Awards honor those who have shown exceptional leadership and commitment in making Virginia’s roads safer for all. Award recipients will be recognized for their impactful efforts in reducing crashes, promoting safer driving behaviors and advancing highway safety initiatives,” said DMV Commissioner Gerald Lackey, the Governor’s Highway Safety Representative. “We truly look forward to showing these dedicated safety advocates our gratitude and celebrating their hard work.” 

Award Categories 

  • Trailblazer Award: Recognizes an individual or organization that has driven significant change in highway safety, implementing innovative solutions or policies that have had a measurable impact.
  • Lifetime Achievement Award: Honors a person with a distinguished career dedicated to advancing highway safety, with long-term, sustained contributions to the field.
  • Rising Star Award: Acknowledges an emerging leader in highway safety who has shown outstanding potential in shaping the future of the field.
  • Law Enforcement Award: Recognizes a law enforcement professional for exceptional service in ensuring road safety and enforcing traffic laws in Virginia.

How to Nominate 

To nominate an individual or organization, submit a completed nomination form by 5 p.m. on April 17, 2025. Late submissions will not be considered.

The Virginia Highway Safety Office works to improve road safety through initiatives, education, and enforcement programs aimed at reducing crashes, injuries, and fatalities. By collaborating with partners across the state, the Highway Safety Office strives to make Virginia’s roadways safer for all users.
