COVINGTON, Va. (VR) – The Covington mill will begin an annual planned maintenance outage the night of March 28. C2 Paper Machine will be rebuilt March 28 – April 19. The mill will be entirely down for a cold mill outage from April 6 – 12. Work will be done intermittently in the Woodyard March 31 – April 17; Unbleached Pulp Mill and Bleach Room March 30 – April 19; and Recovery from March 30 – April 12.

On Sunday, March 30, the Recovery department is planning an outage on No. 2 Recovery Boiler (2RU), No. 2 Lime Kiln, No. 4 Evaporator and the Waste Heat Evaporator. The outage is scheduled to finish on April 12. There may be high noise levels and odors during any part of this time but below are some known dates and times we are more likely to have them.

March 30 – We are taking 2RU down which could possibly result in periodic high noise levels from Sunday 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

April 5 – We are taking No. 2 Lime Kiln down for cleaning. There is the possibility of high odor levels from Saturday, April 5 at 5 a.m. to 5 p.m.

April 6 – During the Full Blow Break, we will be taking the Waste Heat Evaporator down. There will be the possibility of high noise levels and odors periodically from Sunday, April 6 at 7 p.m. until Saturday, April 12 at 7 a.m. when the system is brought back online.

April 11 – 2RU will be coming back online. There is the possibility of high noise and odor levels periodically from approximately from Friday, April 11 at 7 a.m. through Saturday, April 12 at 11 p.m.

Also, lighting will be used March 28 – April 20 to light up the road on the Dunlap creek side of the mill, between C2 and Dunlap creek for employee / contractor safety due to congestion in the area and foot traffic as a result of the C2 rebuild.

This lighting could possibly affect nearby areas. We will work to minimize it as much as possible.

We will work to minimize noise / odor to the community during this outage. While work is being performed, equipment will be shut down and brought back online at different intervals for maintenance. There is a possibility that steam pop-offs could occur as equipment is shut down and brought back online.

If you have any concerns, please contact the Watchbox at 540-969-5416 and they will route the call to the appropriate person.

There will be a number of contractor employees working in the mill during the outage. Please be aware of extra traffic around the mill, the WestRock parking lots, and entrance / exit gates during the outage period, especially around 5 to 7 a.m. and 5 to 7 p.m.
