COVINGTON, Va. (VR) – Jeter Watson Elementary School once again rose to the occasion of helping Curtis A Smith VFW Post 1033 Auxiliary honor our area veterans and the veterans in area veterans’ hospitals with our Valentines for Veterans project.

This is the third year JWES has participated in this program. Under the leadership of Principal Cynthia Morgan, the students made and colored almost 500 cards. What an accomplishment!

We are so proud of the school for all they do to honor our veterans, not just with cards but also a special Veterans Day program every year.

The classes involved this year were:
Alexis Snyder, art teacher-art classes
BJ Childs, Librarian-library-class
Kelly Reid and students
Dawn K. Lewis, special education teacher and students
Sidney Birchfield and students
Terri Slusser and fourth grade students

Cynthia Morgan’s comments about the project this year: “Thank you for all you do to support veterans and recognize their importance in our schools. We appreciate the opportunity to contribute and to be part of these VFW projects. Our students appreciate being included in activities such as these to show their respect and appreciation”.

Mountain View Elementary is new to our Valentines for Veterans program. We welcome them and thank them for the cards they did this year. The classes involved were: Sandy Moss, Kolby Hiner, Michele Via, Phaedra Honts and Nikkie Morris. Principal Mallory Thompson made the following statement: “The students truly enjoyed creating cards for veterans. The staff got involved as well. What an easy way to make someone’s day and show them their sacrifice was appreciated. This also allows teachers to talk about what being a veteran means. Mountain View cannot wait to do this again this year”. And we cannot wait to have you be a part of this special
