PUBLIC NOTICE

ALLEGHANY COUNTY

BOARD OF EQUALIZATION

 

Public notice is hereby given that the Board of Equalization for Alleghany County will meet on the days hereafter listed for the purpose of hearing and giving consideration to concerns and complaints regarding property assessment.  All oral and/or written complaints will be addressed and may result in an increase, decrease, or affirmation of the real estate assessment.  All written complaints should be addressed to Alleghany County Board of Equalization, 9212 Winterberry Avenue, Suite E, Covington, VA  24426.  Before a change can be granted, the taxpayer or his agent must overcome a clear presumption in favor of the assessment.  The taxpayer or agent must provide substantial evidence that the assessment of the property is not uniform with the assessments of other similar properties or prove that the property is assessed in excess of its fair market value.

Appointments will be scheduled every 15 minutes to minimize citizen waiting.  To schedule an appointment with the Board of Equalization, please call (540) 863-6640 between the hours of 8 am and 5 pm, Monday through Friday excluding legal holidays.  Meetings of the Board of Equalization to hear concerns and objections will be held in the Board Room at the Alleghany County Governmental Complex, 9212 Winterberry Avenue, Covington, VA 24426.  The dates and times are as follows:

 

Wednesday, March 19, 2025 9:00 am – 3:00 pm

Friday, March 21, 2025 9:00 am – 3:00 pm

Monday, March 24, 2025 9:00 am – 3:00 pm

Wednesday, March 26, 2025 9:00 am – 3:00 pm

Friday, March 28, 2025 9:00 am – 3:00 pm    

 

Additional dates and times will be scheduled as necessary and advertised ten days in advance of the additional hearing dates.
