CLIFTON FORGE — The watercolor paintings of West Virginia artist Jeanne Brenneman are currently on display at the Clifton Forge School of the Arts, and will be featured in the school’s gallery through March 7.
Originally from Pennsylvania where she began painting in 1972, the artist moved to Lewisburg, W.Va., in 1973 and immersed herself in all the creative aspects of a career in painting.
She is a signature member of West Virginia Watercolor Society and a founding member of Greenbrier Artists, a local painting group that has continued to meet weekly during the last 25 years.
She has shown work in numerous juried exhibitions, winning many awards; she has done commissioned work for public and private corporations, as well as for individuals.
She paints and teaches watercolor classes at her home studio in Lewisburg, where she lives with her husband Bruce, a retired research forester.
“I need to be connected to the natural world, and I want my art to express the joy and delight I find there,” Brenneman said. “When I paint, my awareness is heightened, and I feel this connection strongly.
“Using a representational approach, I try to infuse my paintings with a ‘plus’ factor, a positive emotional quality, an enhanced view,” she continued. “If you, the viewer, are enriched by the experience, then the painting is a success for both of us.”
Twenty-four framed works and 17 matted works (in a slanted bin) are for sale. Upon the request of a prospective buyer, a work will be removed from its frame and the selling price will be adjusted according to the size of the watercolor paper used. This arrangement can be made at the close of the exhibit.
On Sunday, Feb. 2, from 1-4 p.m. the general public is invited to view the exhibit and to join Brenneman for “on the spot” commentary of the works on view.
Also, the artist will demonstrate the unique properties of painting with water and pigments and specially-made brushes on absorbent papers. Light refreshments will be offered, as well. Children, teens and adults are invited to attend. There is no admission fee.
The Clifton Forge School of the Arts opened its doors to the general public in January 2011. Instruction in the fine and applied arts is offered year-round to children and adults. It is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization funded through contributions by individuals, businesses and industries, and by grants from charitable foundations.
