CHARMCO – There aren’t many times in Greenbrier West’s long, proud tradition of basketball when every player in the scorebook gets in the scoring column. Monday night in Charmco, that’s just what happened as the Cavaliers got points from no less than all twelve players on their way to a 77-30 win over Meadow Bridge. The win halted a four-game losing streak dating back to January 15.
The Wildcats got on the board first when Tony Martin knocked down a short-range jumper. It would be Meadow Bridge’s only lead of the night. It took the Cavaliers a minute or two to get on track, but six straight points from junior forward Colton Dunbar ignited the Greenbrier West attack. Isac Crane got in on the scoring with a three-pointer from the corner. Crance’s brother Aiden knocked down a jumper and converted the traditional three-point play. Randy Keener added a layup and Dakota McKinney hit a pair of baskets for an 18-2 first quarter lead.
West kept the pressure on in the second quarter. Aiden Crane knocked down a three-pointer and had five points in the quarter. Dunbar added another basket and pulled down four rebounds in limited minutes due to West’s planned substitution schedule. The Cavaliers have four games in four nights this week and head coach Jared Robertson wanted to keep his team’s legs fresh. The plan worked to perfection. West got a pair of three-pointers, one from each corner, from freshman Carter Vandall. Ben McDaniel did his damage from inside, connecting on a pair of layups and knocking down a free throw for five points. Randy Keener collected a pair of free throws as West outscored the Wildcats 22-7. Martin hit a three-pointer and Jakob Bowman had a basket for Meadow Bridge. Greenbrier West led 40-9 at halftime.
Asher Barclay got himself on track after a cold shotting first half with a pair of layups, and Vandall added four more points to his team-high total of 12. Shane Plogger and Keener each added a basket as the Cavaliers outscored the Wildcats 12-4 in the third quarter. Nick Hamons and Cameron Gipson contributed the two Wildcat buckets. West commanded the game 52-13 after three quarters.
Balanced scoring across the board for Greenbrier West in the fourth quarter eased the Cavalier coaching staff’s worries at least for one night. Jesse Walkup had all seven of his points in the final frame, but West got baskets from McDaniel, Vandall, Keener, Plogger, and Barclay. Isac Crane drilled his second three-pointer of the night for good measure. Keaton Rozelle and freshman Weslee Kinder had five points apiece for the Wildcats as West won going away, 77-30.
Greenbrier West shot a hot 71% from two, 86% from the free throw line, and 47% shooting threes. Meadow Bridge was a chilly 31% from the floor and 33% from the line.
The Cavaliers (3-6) go on the road to Richwood Tuesday night at 7:30. Meadow Bridge (1-11) travel to Calhoun County Friday night.
