FLOYD – Alleghany had not lost a game in almost a month.
On December 26th against Auburn the Cougars suffered their then third straight loss and dropped to 2-3 overall.
After that AHS rattled off eight straight wins where five of them were double digit victories.
That all came to an end last Thursday where Alleghany’s win streak ended on the road against Floyd County as the Buffaloes blew out the Cougars 60-39.
Floyd County had a trio of players in double figures scoring. Gavin Swortzel led the way with a game-high 13 points, while Micah Underwood had 11, and Noah Farley added 10.
The Buffaloes handed Alleghany their worst loss of the season, while also holding the Cougars to their lowest output in scoring as they were held below for the first time this season.
Chase DePriest led the Cougars with a team-high 10 points.
Alleghany’s first district loss of the season dropped the Cougars to 10-4 overall and 3-1 in district play.
