Mitzi Hammond
Mary Zickgraf “Mitzi” Hammond, age 84, of 1011 Fairfield Drive, Eagle Rock, Virginia died on Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at LewisGale Hospital – Alleghany in Low Moor, Virginia.
Mitzi was born on August 23, 1940 in Middletown, Ohio to the late Edwin G. and Majel Pressler Zickgraf. She worked for an Ohio State Educational consulting firm, was a licensed Virginia insurance agent, and was an administrative assistant at Alleghany County High School. She was also an accomplished quilter and award-winning cross stitch artist while living in Connecticut. Mitzi served the Alleghany Highlands YMCA Youth Development Program and was a docent at the Alleghany Highlands Arts and Crafts Center, a past officer of the Covington Junior Women’s Club, and a member of the Ridgefield CT Women’s Club. Mitzi was a member of the Galatia Presbyterian Church.
In addition to her parents, Mitzi was preceded in death by a sister, Lana Hinkle and a brother, Edwin A. Zickgraf.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Jack Arnold Hammond of Eagle Rock; a daughter, Dr. Tamra Stall (Tim) of Covington; two sons, Jack Arnold “Rusty” Hammond II (Teresa) of Covington and Ross Hammond (Lethia) of Eagle Rock; eight grandchildren, Erin Stall Freeman (Scott), Alan Stall (Morgan Leigh), Jack A. “Tripp” Hammond III (Kendra), Travis Hammond (Alexa), Sydnee Hammond Hanson (Daniel), Macrae Hammond Robertson (Steve), Ryan Hammond, and Shaun Hammond; ten great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted on Sunday, January 26, 2025 at 2:00 PM in Galatia Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Emily Hook and Reverend Robert McRae officiating. The family will have a limited time of visitation on Sunday afternoon from 1:00 PM until 1:45 PM at Galatia Presbyterian Church. A private interment will be made at Galatia Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tim Stall, Scott Freeman, Alan Stall, Tripp Hammond, Travis Hammond, Ryan Hammond, and Shaun Hammond.
The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Galatia Presbyterian Church, 78 Gala Loop Rd, Eagle Rock, VA 24085.
