RADFORD – Defense was the precedent set in Alleghany’s 63-47 victory over Valley District foe Radford on Monday night as the Cougars won their fifth straight game to improve to 7-3 overall.
After a tightly contested first half that was separated by two points, Alleghany’s offense which was led by Chase DePriest leading the charge for the Cougars, awoke and outscored Radford 41-27.
DePriest not only scored at will in the second half, but also facilitated plays, as he ended the night with a game-high 30-points, including six 3-pointers.
The defense from Alleghany being able to switch and rotate on all screens, while maintaining tight coverage no matter the matchup was key in their efforts to slow down a Radford team that was coming off of a 14-point victory over Patrick County.
The game’s difference maker was the third quarter as Alleghany outscored Radford 24-10, where DePreist scored 14 of his 30 points.
Alleghany led as much as 25-points in the second half. Eli Entsminger also reached double figures for the Cougars with 13.
