ROANOKE – The Northside Invitational Tournament began last Thursday and lasted until Saturday.
Alleghany placed 5th at the event.
In the tournaments opening round on Thursday the Cougars lost to Auburn 53-47.
AHS jumped out to a nine-point first quarter lead, but were outscored 23-12 in a crucial second, giving the Eagles a four-point lead at halftime.
Alleghany was led by Mason Hale who scored a team-high 15 points while Auburn was led by Drew Royal’s game-high 22 points.

On Friday in the consolation round Alleghany snapped their three-game losing streak with a big 59-38 victory over Blacksburg.
The Cougars were led by Jalen Raether’s game-high 15 points, including five three-pointers. AHS finished with three players in double figures as Chase DePriest scored 14 for a second straight game (14 against Auburn) and Mason Hale added 11.
Alleghany was lifted by a huge fourth quarter run where they outscored Blacksburg 24-5.
In the fifth-place game, Alleghany went up against a one-loss Liberty Christian Academy team, but it was the Cougars who prevailed victorious following a second straight double digit win 58-43.
It was the third game in a row that Alleghany had a different scoring leader as Bubby Entsminger led the way with a game-high 15 points.
The Bulldogs were paced by Jisaiah Bryant’s team-high 12.
Chase DePriest had a solid tournament for the Cougars as he averaged 13 points per game.
Northside defeated North Cross 75-62 in the tournament finals.
