Robert (Rob) King Bennett, II

Mr. Robert (Rob) King Bennett, II, of Covington, VA went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 23, 2024 at Lewis Gale Medical Center in Salem, VA after suffering from lung cancer. He was 58 years old.

Rob was born on August 31,1966 in Frankfort, KY, the son of the late Robert King (Bob) and Dorothy Leibee Bennett. Rob graduated Alleghany County High School in 1985 and went on to receive his Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Virginia Tech in 1990 and a Masters of Education from Liberty University in 2007. In 1990, Rob began a long history in education by Teaching, Coaching and ended in Administration in the Covington City School System when he retired in 2021. While serving the students and parents of Covington, Rob continued to give of his time to the Covington City Council from 2004-2012 where he served as Mayor for 8 of those years and served on the Library Board from 2018-to present.

Rob was more than a teacher and coach to his students. He was a friend, counselor, advisor and mentor to all students throughout his career. Rob wanted to make an impact wherever possible and that is no better demonstrated than in the legacy he leaves behind in the Covington City School System and its students. Rob was also a faithful member of Edgemont Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon.

In his free time, he had a variety of hobbies. He loved wildlife and enjoyed cold mornings hunting. Rob also loved to travel and experience different cultures, music, theater, and art. Notably, he enjoyed the most exciting two minutes of all sports, horse racing. Those that knew Rob best, knew he bled blue for the Kentucky Wildcats Basketball Team and for the Covington Cougars.

Rob is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Cynthia (Cindy) Beamer Bennett of Covington, a daughter, Madison King Bennett who is currently at Liberty Law in Lynchburg, VA and a sister, Cynthia Bennett Paxton of Mechanicsville, VA and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Curfman Hall at Covington Middle School located at 606 S. Lexington Avenue, Covington VA 24426 on Monday, December 30, 2024 at 1:00 pm. with Robert McClintic and Stephanie Clark officiating. Visitation with the family will be held at Curfman Hall from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm prior to the service beginning. Following the service, Rob will be buried next to his parents at the Cedar Hill Cemetery with Rev. James MacDougall officiating.

Pallbearers will be Mason Honaker, John Slayman, Mark Gay, Ben Dickerson, Darren Venable and Robbie Wood. Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Weiss, Gary Wayne Twitty, Lindsay Hughes, Kyle Keyser, Steve Jones, Dan Fey and Dana Johnson.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Edgemont Presbyterian Church, 2306 S. Church Avenue, Covington, VA 24426.
