Boys Home of Virginia recently held its 59th annual Cottage Christmas Decorating Contest.
Employees of Ingevity in Covington served as judges this year. Winners were announced on Tuesday, Dec. 17.
Each year, students and houseparents decorate the cottages inside and out in preparation for the Christmas season. Cottages usually spend about a week decorating and begin as soon as students return from Thanksgiving break.
The competition is divided into four categories: Best Outside Decorations, Best Inside Decorations, Best Christmas Tree, and Best Overall.
The winners are as follows:
•Best Outside Decorations: Wheatley Center, first place; Brown Cottage, second place; Watkins Cottage, third place.
•Best Inside Decorations: Wheatley Center, first place; Watkins Cottage, second place; Greene Cottage, third place.
•Best Christmas Tree: Sams Cottage, first place; Wheatley Center, second place; Greene Cottage, third place.
•Best Overall: Wheatley Center, first place; Brown Cottage, second place; Wat-kins Cottage, third place.
The decorating competition was started in 1960 by the late Paul Siple, a former coach and Boys Home associate director.
