The Alleghany wrestling team wrapped up its home schedule Wednesday night against Lord Botetourt, falling 44-33.
Daniel Shifflett, Derek Burhenn, Casey Bradberry and Travis Herlad all earned pins for the Mountaineers, while Cole Murray won by forfeit and Nathan Sizemore won by decision.
“We had some guys that definitely went out there and took care of business. Unfortunately, we took a step back tonight and gave up way too many pins,” said Alleghany coach Dale Burdette. “Those bonus points killed us tonight. Going into the last match we needed a pin to win, but I know that’s typically too much to ask of any freshman. The match was really decided before that.”
Seniors Shifflett, Clayton Talkington and Justin Guzman were honored prior to the match .
Alleghany (14-6) will be back in action Saturday at the Knights Invitational at James River High School. School attending will include Salem, Martinsville, Staunton River, Bassett, Lord Botetourt, Appomattox, Amelia County, Randolph Henry, Virginia Episcopal, Radford and the host Knights.
