Obituary: Norman Edward Harris, 82

 

Norman Edward Harris, age 82, of 106 Heatherton Drive, Valley Ridge, Covington, Virginia died on Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at his residence. 

 

Norman was born on November 20, 1942 in Covington, Virginia to the late Roy Edward and Lucille Haynes Harris.  He was a maintenance oiler for Westvaco and a very active member of Grace Brethren Church.  He was a loyal husband and loved his grandchildren.  He enjoyed motorcycles.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Juanita “Pete” Wright, Sarah Harris, Dorothy Keith, and Phyllis Nida, and two brothers, Vernon Harris and Jerry “Tom” Harris.

 

He is survived by his wife, Mary Frances Dudding Harris of Valley Ridge; two daughters, Donna Hinde (Kevin) of Charlotte, NC and Sylvia Brown of Covington; two sons, Norman Harris, Jr. (Jennifer) of Daleville and Mark Harris of Morganton, NC; four brothers, Gene Harris (Freda), Rodney Harris (Pat), and Allen Harris, all of Covington, and Gary Dale Harris (Susan) of Christiansburg; and a number of grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

 

In keeping with his wishes, his body has been cremated.  A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2024 at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Billy Price officiating.  The family will visit with friends one hour prior at Nicely Funeral Home.

 

The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN  38105 or to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, ATTN:  Office of Development, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL  33607.
