CHRISTIANSBURG – The swim season kicked off for Alleghany on Saturday, December 7th at the Southwest Virginia Invitational held at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center. 

 
Science Hill High School out of Johnson City, TN was the overall top performing school in both the boys and girls classes.
 
Nolan Rosales and Isaiah Thomas each performed in three events for Alleghany, including the 200-yard relay race where the Cougars finished in 20th place out of 26 teams. 
 
Rosales best individual finish was in the 100-yard breaststroke where he finished 37th after a time of 1:39.07.
 
Thomas’s individual best performance was in the 100-yard freestyle where he finished 67th and with a time of 1:41.43.
 
On the girls side, Emily Peters, Payton O’Brien, Cora Hodges, and Kara Nicely also completed in three events. The four finished 29th in the 200-yard free style relay out of 39 teams.
 
Nicely’s individual best performance of the event came in the 200-yard freestyle where she placed 19th following a time of 2:31.44.
 
Peters finished with a team-best performance in the 50-yard freestyle with a 56th placed finish following a time of 31.90.
 
O’Brien had a time of 1:36.63 in the 100-yard freestyle which was good for a placement of 110th.
 
Hodges best individual day at the event occurred also in the 100-yard freestyle after a time of 1:18.66 for a 69th place finish.
