LOW MOOR – It was a historic football season for Alleghany as they finished with an 11-1 overall record, while also going undefeated during the regular season which included a Three Rivers district title.
Just as the Cougars dominated the TRD during the season, they also dominated the individual awards and All-TRD teams with 13 total players across the board.
Alleghany swept through the individual awards.
Leading the way for the Cougars starts with the man under center, Des Jordan, who was named the TRD offensive player of the year. The junior quarterback threw for over 2,500-yards and had a completion rate over 76%, while also accounting for 50 total touchdowns (34 passing and 16 rushing). Jordan was a nightmare to opposing defenses and only threw five interceptions on 222 pass attempts. Jordan had seven total TDs in a week 2 victory over Fort Defiance.
On the defensive side of the football, the offensive line could not contain Gavin Via, who ran straight through and past the o-line. Via was named the TRD defensive player of the year following a senior-season where he finished with a team-high 82 tackles, including three sacks. While Via brought such a huge presence to the Cougars defense, he came up big in the team’s regional quarterfinal win over Wilson Memorial where he had 12 tackles.
In two years under the helm as head coach of the AHS Cougars, Will Fields has posted a 20-4 overall record, including this season where he coached his team to a TRD district title following a 6-0 record in conference. Fields was named the 2024 TRD coach of the year.
