Alleghany’s volleyball season came to an end at the Class 3 State Tournament quarterfinals against Christiansburg where the Blue Demons won in straight sets; 25-22, 25-20, 25-20.
The Cougars battled while keeping each set close and never backed down from the Blue Demons who won their 23rd straight home game and came in as the Class 3D regional champions.
Senior Kaiya Lian led the way for Alleghany with a team-high 10 kills, while senior Laken Tingler added eight and a pair of aces. Meanwhile senior Bryce Leitch had four blocks and a team-high eight digs. Sophomore Kendra Dressler dished out 23 assists.
Christiansburg had 43 total kills with 30 of them coming from the duo of junior Ela Shepherd and senior Addison Reasor. Shepherd led the way with a match-high of 16, while Reason added 14. Shepherd also had a 12-dig, and 16 assist performance. Junior Reese Hall had a match-high 13 digs, while sophomore Blair Self had a team-high 23 assists.
Alleghany finished the season 24-5 overall and were the Three Rivers District regular and postseason champions and were the Region 3C runner-ups.
Christiansburg defeated Hidden Valley in the Class 3, Region D final. The Titans then in a regional final rematch, knocked off the Blue Demons in the state semifinals. HVHS went on to defeat Grafton to win the Class 3 State Championship. The Titans had previously knocked off the state tournament’s No. 1 overall seed Liberty Christian Academy in the state quarterfinals.
