LOW MOOR – Alleghany is on the cusp of winning the Three Rivers District championship.

The only thing standing in their way is Floyd County.

After dropping their season-opener, the Buffaloes went on to win five of their next six games to improve 5-2. However, FCHS has lost two in a row, both coming against Radford and Glenvar.

Floyd can put points on the scoreboard. They are averaging just under 30 points a game, but Alleghany is giving up less than 12 points a game.

On paper, Alleghany is favored by a wide margin, which is why you play the actual game. The Cougars have put together some of the best defensive games in recent memory and just last week they forced James River (Buchanan) to five turnovers, including a pick-6 from Hunter Knighton.

Last season Alleghany crushed Floyd County 61-18 in Covington with 40 points coming alone in only the first quarter.

If last season was any indication for what’s to come on Friday, then the Buffaloes are in for a long night.

As a sophomore last season, quarterback Des Jordan torched Floyd with six total touchdowns in the win with four coming in the air and two on the ground. Knighton and Xzavier Hayslett, who were a part of the win last year as well, each had a touchdown.

On Friday the Cougars have a chance at history as they could walk away with a district title as they play their final TRD game. AHS will be joining the Shenandoah District next Fall.

A win would also cement an undefeated regular season and a top-3 seed in the Class 3, Region C playoff tournament which begins on Friday, November 15th.
