Warm Springs- If asked to choose a word to describe the Bath County Charger’s season thus far, dominant immediately comes to mind.

Bath County has been blowing teams out all season long and they don’t seem to be stopping any time soon. On offense, Wyatt Campbell has been as or more impressive at the quarterback position than anyone you could hope to see play at the high school level. His ability to both run and pass puts him on a level of special that resembles a young Mike Vick or Cam Newton. When number eight has the ball, don’t blink because you will miss something great.

The defense has looked just as incredible, led by senior Braiden Mabe who sometimes looks more like Ray Lewis or Lawrence Taylor than a high school senior. He is always either in the backfield making a play or is one of players making a tackle. That is to take nothing away from the rest of the team, they play as one cohesive unit, and their talent is evident from start to finish.

Parry McCluer has also had a great season. They currently have a record of 5-3 which is very impressive considering their losses came to three big schools with good football teams. The Prince Edward County Eagles, Narrows, and Altavista have handed the Fighting Blues losses, with only Altavista blowing them out. They have also beat some good football teams like Rockbridge and Fort Chiswell. Under second year head coach Jeremiah Brockenbrough, they have looked impressive all season even though the team is mostly comprised of underclassmen.

They’ve had quite a few step up and take on leading roles. The core of McCluer’s success though has come from their returning offensive backfield. Quarterback Nathan Glass picked up right where he left off last season reading the field well and making tough throws into tight coverage. He has also advanced in his running ability, picking up tough yards in crucial situations. Last year, Glass earned first team all-district honors and is likely to best that achievement this season.

All-in-all, this is shaping up to be a rather good match up Friday evening. Be sure to come out to Bath County High School and cheer your team on as they battle head-to-head in this important district matchup. This game really could be the deciding factor in who is coming away with the Pioneer District title and who is going home in second.
