Lowman finishes 13th in Elite Showcase

MECHANICSVILLE – At the 2024 Virginia XC Showcase held at Pole Green Park (Upper Course) on Saturday, October 19th, junior Kiera Lowman finished 13th overall for Alleghany in the girls Showcase event.

Lowman was the only participant from the Cougars to run in the event as she finished the 5000-meter run with a time of 17:35.40.

There was a total of 258 runners in the showcase event that was won by Abby Faith Cheeseman from The Webb School of Buckle in Bell Buckle, TN. Cheeseman ran a day’s best 16:48.70. 

In the girls’ small school event Alleghany finished in ninth place as a team in a field that consisted of 25 teams which was won by Cape Henry Collegiate. 

The race itself consisted of 243 individual runners which was won by Isabella Curtis from Peninsula Catholic with a time of 18:34.60. Alleghany’s Faith Barron was the top Cougars runner in the 5000-meter run as she placed 16th overall with a time of 20:46.10.

The boys’ race was won by Trinity School, while Alleghany finished 16th overall in a field that had 36 total teams.

In the boys’ individual race Spencer Britton from North Cross finished in 1st place following a time of 16:03.60 and was nearly 11 second faster than the second-place runner.

Alleghany’s Maddox Wickline finished 75th overall with a time of 18:25.50.

The boys small school individual 5000-meter run featured a total of 324 runners.

COVINGTON, Va. (VR) - The Covington Lumberjacks will welcome Special Olympics athletes to Casey Field on Sunday, June 14, for a memorable evening of baseball and community spirit.
The festivities begin at 4 p.m. as Special Olympics participants take part in several pregame activities. Athletes will sing the National Anthem, join Lumberjacks players on the field during introductions, and have the opportunity to throw a ceremonial first pitch.
The event is designed to celebrate inclusion and provide a special experience for participating athletes while bringing the community together through baseball. Fans are encouraged to arrive early and help recognize the Special Olympics athletes as they take center stage alongside the Lumberjacks.

The Covington Lumberjacks Bark in the Park night has been rescheduled for June 16 at 6:30 p.m. after the original game was cancelled due to weather. Fans are encouraged to bring donations of dog and cat food for the Alleghany Humane Society, which will also be on hand with adoptable pets. Guests are welcome to bring their four-legged friends as long as they are on a leash.
