COVINGTON Va. (VR) – City Council chambers were almost filled to capacity inside of City Hall last Thursday night during the regular monthly meeting of the Covington City Council. Among the many items on the agenda was one announcement that left most people shocked and also filled with gratitude.
Covington City Manager Allen Dressler shared that one local hero Timothy (Tim) Yancey after 14 years of official service had decided to retire. City Council Member David Crosier was quick to point out that Yancey had given many more than 14 years to the community. He stated he knows that as a volunteer with the local fire and EMS departments, Yancey has almost doubled that number. Crosier shared that he’s witnessed Yancey on Sunday mornings after church still in a suit responding to Covington’s 911 calls.
Allen Dressler presented Yancey with a plaque to commemorate his numerous faithful years of service in Covington.
Mayor Sibold then stood and said, “Thank you brother for all you have done. I mean you have kept things going for a long time. We appreciate all you’ve done for the city, for the fire department and rescue squad and everything else you’ve done.”
Council Member Carson took a minute to say, “Tim, thank you so much. I’m gonna miss you, number three sailing here and sailing there.” Carson was referencing Yancey responding on squad calls. Yancey did not make this decision lightly and is thankful for the many friends he has made and the great colleagues he’s worked with all along the way. He will now be able to spend more time with his family doing things he enjoys.
