KESWICK – Western Albemarle’s golf team outlasted four other schools at the four-team Class 3, Region C qualifier held at The Club at Glenmore in Keswick this past Wednesday following a team days best 293 on the green.
While the Warriors were the top team at the regional qualifier, they also had the individual day’s best score as Kennedy MacCleery was the medalist with a 69, good for a 3-under-par.
Alleghany placed third at the event as they finished behind Monticello who finished second with a 320. The Cougars as a team shot a 347 and did not qualify as a team for the regional tournament.
At The Club at Glenmore, Alleghany’s Kai Rowland led the team with an 83, while Haden Spinks was a mere one shot behind Rowland with an 84. Meanwhile Jacob Morris finished third for the Cougars with an 89, and Landon Arritt carded with a 91.
Although the Cougars as a team will miss out at regionals, AHS will have three individuals represented at the regional tournament. Rowland, Spinks, and Morris, all qualified individually for regionals.
Fluvanna finished fourth at the four-team regional qualifier with a score of 404.

Alleghany was set to play on the green last Thursday at The Greenbrier against Greenbrier East and Princeton, however, that match was canceled due to the weather.
On Tuesday the Cougars trio of Rowland, Spinks, and Morris will head to Harrisonburg for the regional tournament at the Heritage Oaks Golf Course.
