On September 2, 2024 Covington Paperworkers Union 675 hosted the Alleghany Highlands 79th Annual Celebration in honor of Labor Day with a full day of events and entertainment. A parade kicked off the day, traveling down Main Street, highlighting community members, area youth programs, and local representatives. An enthusiastic crowd filled the streets to offer support in hopes of catching a glimpse of family members and friends. Among the most anticipated entries, Delethea Quarles waved to the crowd as they celebrated and welcomed her home after her successful coaching efforts during the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics. The festivities then moved to Jackson River Sports Complex where members of VFW Auxillary 1033 offered a beautiful tribute as the American Flag was raised and honored.  Citizens enjoyed multiple food vendors, kids activities, a car show by Alleghany Cruisers, and live music by the Key West Band followed by the Uncle Jesse Band. A day filled with fun and celebration ended with an outstanding fireworks display.
