MILLBORO - Evelyn Layton Matheney, 74, of 11052 Cowpasture River Highway, Millboro, died Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010, at her residence.

She was born August 7, 1935 ,in Bath County, a daughter of the late Walter Golden Layton and Ruby Marshall Layton.

She was a certified nursing assistant for the former Taylor Nursing Home.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by first husband, Bernard O. Matheney in 1992; her second husband, Glenn Lester “Tinker” Grimm Sr. in 2008; two brothers, Homer Layton and Melvin Layton, and a sister, Alma Keyser.

She is survived by two daughters, Carol Simmons and husband, Bobby, of Millboro ,and Robbin C. Oliver and husband James of Covington; two sons, James Eric Matheney and his significant other, Amanda Gregory of Millboro, and Bernard Wayne Matheney and wife, Jeanette, of Craigsville; three sisters, Imogene Deeds and husband, Richard, of Clifton Forge, Geraldine Fitzgerald of Buena Vista, and Agnes Morris of Harrisonburg; two brothers, Palmer Layton of New York and Raymond Layton of Roanoke; eight grandchildren, Jeff Simmons and wife Julie, Penny Kouns and husband Heath, James W. Matheny, Autumn Cutlip, Allyson Cutlip, Josh Matheney, Jacob Matheney, and Rachel Matheney; five great grandchildren, Bo Simmons, Logan Kouns, Leah Kouns, Anna Kouns, and Gavin L. Randozzo; and several step children, nieces, and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with the Rev. Lennie Stinnett officiating. Interment will follow in Millboro Christian Church Cemetery, Millboro.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Simmons, Heath Kouns, Phillip Deeds, Timmy Keyser, Billy Oliver and Thomas Randozzo.

The family will receive friends this evening from 6 until 8 at Nicely Funeral Home.

The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Mountain Regional Hospice Volunteers, P.O. Box 37, Clifton Forge, Va. 24422.
