NEOLA, W.Va. – Roger Carson Waid, 57, of Neola, W.Va., and Manassas, passed away Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Born in Clifton Forge Dec. 18, 1951, he was the son of the late Carson Calvin and Ruth Elizabeth Hanna Waid.

Roger was of the Methodist faith. He was a heavy machinery operator for S.W. Rogers Construction Company, where he worked for 20 years. Roger was an avid hunter.

Survivors include two sons, Brian Waid of Nashville, Tenn., and Brandon (Heather) Waid of White Sulphur Springs, W.Va.; one daughter, Dana Waid of White Sulphur Springs, W.Va.; four grandchildren, Devin and Anna Simms, Arwyn Waid, and Robbie Terrant. Also surviving is his companion, Peggy Burke of Manassas, and one sister, Dana (Johnnie) Young of Neola, W.Va.

A funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Shanklin Funeral Home with the Rev. Lowell O’Dell officiating. Burial will follow in the Alvon Presbyterian Church at Alvon, W.Va.

Visitation will be this evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Shanklin Funeral Home, White Sulphur Springs, is serving the family.
