Carlos William Persinger, 49, of 4207 Upper Rich Patch Road, died Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009 in the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville.

Mr. Persinger was born May 25, 1960, in Alleghany County, a son of Edith Geraline Persinger Shuff of Covington and the late Carl Raymond Persinger Jr.

He was employed by the Greenbrier Hotel in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va., for 13 years.

He was a member of Cliffdale Christian Church and was a member of the church softball team. He also enjoyed bowling, hunting and fishing.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Kay Persinger, and a nephew, Conner Wolfe.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Debbie Withrow Persinger of Covington; his son, Carlos W. Persinger Jr., of Roanoke; his daughter, Rebecca Persinger of Covington; two stepsons, Matthew Knapp of Covington and Timothy Knapp of Alderson, W.Va.; his stepdaughter, Jessica Knapp of Ronceverte, W.Va.; a grandson, Gage Wade of Ronceverte, W.Va.; three sisters, Debbie Dawson and her husband, Jerrell, and Sherry Lappeaux, all of Covington and Tammie Hepler and her husband, Jessie, of Selma; nieces and nephews, Jennifer Pritt, Christina Lappeaux, Bobby Wolfe Jr., Raymond Wolfe, William Jennings and Drew Hepler and special friends Eddie Hertzog and Craig May.

A funeral service will be conducted Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. Riley Roscoe Smith officiating.

Interment will be in the Persinger Family Cemetery on Upper Rich Patch Road.

Active pallbearers will be Juny Rose, Quint Byer, Bub Wolfe, Craig Mays, Timmy Knapp and Brian Humphries. Alternates will be Jackie Fridley and Sam Pendleton.

Friends may pay their respects at anytime at Arritt Funeral Home. The family will receive their friends this evening from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Arritt Funeral Home.
