CHARLOTTESVILLE – In the second game of a doubleheader with the second game being played in 7-innings, Charlottesville clinched the South Division following a 2-1 Valley Baseball League victory over Covington on Friday night at Charlottesville High School.

The TomSox offense from game one of the doubleheader did not carry over to the second game. However, the TomSox acted early by scoring two runs in the 1st and 2nd innings, which proved to be enough for the home team to clinch their division.

Carlos Escobosa (L) did all he could on the mound for Covington. The right hander suffered the loss after giving up two runs on three hits in four innings, where he struck out three. Colby Phillips was just as effective as he tossed two perfect innings in relief of Escobosa.

Sean Williams (2-for-3) led Covington with a pair of hits. Four other Lumberjacks added hits as well.

Robbie Lavey (0-for-3) helped put Chalottesville ahead in the bottom of the 1st inning with a fielder’s choice ground out.

In the bottom of the second inning Jack McMillan (1-for-2) nearly doubled their runs with one swing as Mullan crushed the ball on a one hopper off of center field, which scored the team’s second run of the game.

Covington would strike in the third inning as Thomas Marsala (1-for-3) hit a sacrifice fly which scored Dariel Castillo (0-for-4) who also reached base on an error committed by the Charlottesville defense.

Covington 0 0 1 0 0 0 0 – 1 6 1
Charlottesville 1 1 0 0 0 0 x – 2 3 4
