COVINGTON, Va. (VR) - The Covington Lumberjacks will welcome Special Olympics athletes to Casey Field on Sunday, June 14, for a memorable evening of baseball and community spirit.
The festivities begin at 4 p.m. as Special Olympics participants take part in several pregame activities. Athletes will sing the National Anthem, join Lumberjacks players on the field during introductions, and have the opportunity to throw a ceremonial first pitch.
The event is designed to celebrate inclusion and provide a special experience for participating athletes while bringing the community together through baseball. Fans are encouraged to arrive early and help recognize the Special Olympics athletes as they take center stage alongside the Lumberjacks.

The Covington Lumberjacks Bark in the Park night has been rescheduled for June 16 at 6:30 p.m. after the original game was cancelled due to weather. Fans are encouraged to bring donations of dog and cat food for the Alleghany Humane Society, which will also be on hand with adoptable pets. Guests are welcome to bring their four-legged friends as long as they are on a leash.

COVINGTON, Va. (VR) — The Covington VA250 Celebration opened Thursday evening at the Jackson River Sports Complex. Crowds began lining up before gates opened at 6 p.m. and quickly filled the midway. Rides provided by Coles Amusements drew steady lines throughout the evening, while food vendors served a variety of fair favorites.
The celebration continues Friday and Saturday. Gates open at 6 p.m. each day and admission is free. Ride tickets are available for purchase on site. The event concludes Saturday night with a fireworks show. Photo: Christopher Mentz, VR

Ronnie Allen Angle, Sr.

Ronnie Allen Angle, Sr., 60, of Waynesboro, VA, formerly of Clifton Forge, Va, passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at UVA Medical Center in Charlottesville. He was born on November 9, 1963, in Allegheny County and was the son of the late Robert and Clo Loving Angle, who still
survives. Ronnie graduated from Allegheny High School in 1981. He worked at Walmart Distribution Center as a maintenance technician for 18 years. Ronnie enjoyed being outdoors and spent many years hunting, fishing, gardening, and riding his Harley. He will be greatly missed by those
who knew and loved him.

In addition to his father he was preceded in death by his second wife, Wanda “Faye” Angle; former brother-in-law, Jonathan Leathers; former sister-in-law, Donna Shifflett; former mother-in-law, Martha Downey.

He is survived by his wife, Rita Angle of Waynesboro; son, Ronnie Angle Jr., and wife, Linda; daughter, Monica Shifflett; step-children: Timmy Layman and fiancée, Camey Tillman, Joshua Fitzgerald, Brooke May and husband, Josh, Taylor Estes and fiancé, Bryce Leake, Michael Estes and fiancée, Michaela Humphreys; brother, Bobby Angle and wife, Michelle; sister, Norma Lowe and husband, David; brother, Ricky Angle; brother, Tony Angle; sister-in-law, Jeanette Angle; former brother-in-law Danny Shifflett and wife, Sherry; former sister-in-law Mary Taylor and husband, Rick; former brother-in-law, Dennis Shifflett; former brother-in-law, Randy “Doodlebug” Shifflett and companion, Debbie Roach; former sister-in-law, Lori Leathers; father-in-law, Daniel Shifflett; brother-in-law, Daniel Shifflett, Jr.; grandchildren, Oakley and Harlyn Angle; first wife, Francelia Cox; 14 step-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and extended family.

Services will be held on Monday, June 10, 2024, at Charlton and Groome Funeral Home in Fishersville, Va. Visitation will be 12 to 1 p.m.; Funeral service will be 1 to 2 p.m., with graveside committal to follow at Oaklawn Mausoleum & Memory Gardens in Staunton, Va.
