Several Alleghany Highlands organizations have partnered to provide assistance to individuals and families who are homebound and have no way of getting food or other necessary items during the Coronavirus crisis.
These organizations include the Salvation Army, city of Covington and Covington Division of Police, Alleghany County and the Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office, Clifton Forge Police Department, the Local Office on Aging, Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce and Tourism and Mountaineer Minuteman Militia.
“Over the last few days, our agencies have been getting many requests for food. We have decided to work together and coordinate our efforts to target those seniors and homebound individuals who need our help the most,” said Major George Hackbarth from the Salvation Army of Covington.
The Salvation Army will act as a clearing house for seniors and single parents with children who are homebound and who need assistance.
They can be reached by calling 540-962-6206.
The Mountaineer Minute-men Militia, who will have appropriate identification, will deliver the necessary items to those who qualify.
In addition, donations are needed to meet the growing demand for toilet paper, paper towels, adult diapers, hand sanitizers, non-perishable food and cleaning supplies.
Donation bins for those items are at these drop-off locations:
