Dear Editor,

On Saturday, March 23rd, Olde Town Covington held its 2nd Annual Tea at the Market. We are excited to announce we had 120+ guests and over 140 after volunteers.

This event brings the community together for a quaint cultural experience while enjoying a multi-course tea time with food and door prizes donated by local businesses. Throughout the event attendees were entertained with a book reading from Librarian, Rebekah Burnette; a violinist, Madison Barnette; and a live painting from local artist Cheyenne Marcus which was donated by Cheyenne and given away in a social media contest specifically for those who attended the event. Each course was served by volunteers, these volunteers were from local businesses and the community; they are your family, friends and neighbors, they are Alleghany Highlands Public Schools students and members of the Alleghany High School Varsity Baseball team. The kitchen was staffed by Olde Town Covington board members, Lisa Akers (Crawford Photography) and Terri McClung (City of Covington’s Small Business Coordinator) as well as Julie Carroll from The Friendly Fork and Anthony Price from Kanawha Cafe; these ladies and gentleman were the backbone to getting each course out to our servers for our guests to enjoy!

On behalf of Olde Town Covington, we would like to extend our sincerest “Thank You” to our event sponsors: Kanawha Cafe, Smith’s Sports, San Juan, The Friendly Fork, Driven Designs and Jack Mason’s Tavern, each of these businesses made substantial contributions to this event; to Good News Church on Main for donating the venue space; to Formals and Florals on Main for the donation of the table centerpieces; Noel Family Homestead for their donation of tea to the event; Alleghany Floral Boutique for their donation of 2 floral arrangements for decoration and door prizes; Nothing But Cakes for their cupcakes, babycakes and cookie door prize donations; Ray’s Sweet Shoppe and Poutinerie for the goody bag door prizes; and Tiffany’s Pine Valley Scent Shack for the door prizes. Thank you to the following businesses for making a monetary contribution for the purchase of tea sets as door prizes for the children in attendance: Chapman’s Plumbing Heating and Air Conditioning; Cliffview Golf Course, Brewhouse and Inn; Crawford Photography; Covington Car Company; Elaine Mitchell’s; Lytle Realty; Mountain River Realty; Tri-County Furniture; West Winds Venue; and Wheeler Family Dentistry.

Thank you everyone who made our 2nd Annual Tea at the Market such a success and we look forward to bringing this event back next year in 2025!

With sincerest

gratitude,
Jennifer Smith
