On Wednesday night, October 4th, the Junior Varsity (JV) and Varsity Lady Cougars’ volleyball teams faced off against the Radford Bobcats, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at Clifton Academy.
JV was first to set things in motion, serving up a double dose of defeat when they took Radford down in a two-up-two-down match. The Lady Cougars’ victory against the Bobcats was significant in maintaining their undefeated record, now standing strong at 20-0. Their consistent performance has made them a force to be reckoned with throughout the league!
The Varsity Lady Cougars also stood victorious, boosting their season record to 16-4. In a hard-fought battle, they dominated the first set, fell to the Bobcats in the second, won the third, lost the fourth, and —in a nail-biting final— pounced on Radford, crushing the fifth set and sending the Bobcats packing.
The Radford Bobcats, an incredibly tough team, held their own throughout all five sets, often leaving fans to wonder about the potential outcome. However, in the end, they were no match for the Varsity Cougars volleyball team who demonstrated excellent teamwork and strategic mastery!
Wednesday night’s victories are a testimony to all the time and dedication put forth by the players and coaching staff of both teams this season. JV’s untarnished —and seemingly unbreakable— streak has Alleghany County talking about their determination and unmatched skills. Meanwhile, the Varsity Lady Cougars continue to improve and dominate on the court.
The impressive growth and teamwork demonstrated by both JV and Varsity have brought a sense of “Blue Pride” to our small community, with local fans and “Cougar Maniacs” alike cheering them on from the bleachers! As the season continues, one can expect both teams of Lady Cougars to continue to perform at max capacity as their momentum increases.
Their next games are scheduled for Tuesday, October 10th at 5:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. JV will serve first, with Varsity to follow in away games against the Patrick County Cougars in a Cougar vs. Cougar showdown! The last time Alleghany played Patrick County was in back-to-back home games with JV rising above the like-named Cougars at 2-0, while Varsity also shut them out at 3-0.
