The Alleghany Cougars Varsity Golf Team played on Tuesday, September 5, at Great Oaks Country Club in Floyd, Virginia, against six rival teams: Floyd County, Radford, James River, Carroll County, Patrick County, and Glenvar. Scores are as follows:
Alleghany
Haden Spinks: 81
Kai Rowland: 91
Chris Harden: 108
Landon Arritt: 97
Jacob Morris: 99
Total (Best 4): 359
The scores for their competitors are as follows: Floyd County with 328, Radford with 343, James River with 326, Carroll with 356, Patrick County with 350, and Glenvar with 351.
Virginian Review caught up with Coach Archie Lemon to get his thoughts on the tournament. Lemon said, “Alleghany’s players continue to show improvement even if their team scores may not always be indicative. Our biggest challenges are short game (50 yards and in) and course management. I’m so proud of our players as they show such great character during competition!” Lemon, as Alleghany High School’s first-ever golf champion, recently took over coaching the team as a way of giving back to the game that, he says, has given him a wonderful career.
The next match for the Alleghany Cougars is scheduled for Wednesday, September 13, at 4 p.m. at the Lexington Country Club against Rockbridge County.
