Dorothy Hylton Thomas
Mrs. Dorothy Hylton Thomas, age 96, of Covington, died Saturday, August 12, 2023, at her residence. She was the wife of the late Alphord R. Thomas, Sr.
Mrs. Thomas was born March 18, 1927 in Crichton, WV, the daughter of the late Posey Edgar Hylton and Lora Violet Webb Hylton. Mrs. Thomas previously lived in Wright Patterson Air Force Base and Medway, OH. While living in Ohio, she was a member of the Medway, OH PTA and was a lifetime member of Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW Post 9684 at Medway. Dorothy was a homemaker who enjoyed taking care of and spending time with her family. She attended church at Antioch Christian Church on Big Ridge and First Christian Church in Covington where she served her church as a Sunday school teacher.
Mrs. Thomas is survived by three daughters, Ada Sue Thomas Smith of Covington, Deborah Kay Thomas Foreman of Fort Wayne, IN, and Lora Lee Thomas Dietrich of Covington; a son, Michael David Thomas of Colorado Springs, CO; numerous grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a brother, David Calvin Hylton of Covington; a sister, Shirley H. Kelley of Bradenton FL; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by a son, Alphord Richard Thomas Jr.; a daughter, Patricia Ann Thomas McClellan; a granddaughter, Jessica L’Raye McBride; a grandson, Jason Thomas Armstrong; a great-granddaughter, Felica Marie Murphy; and three brothers, Posey Edgar “Jack” Hylton, Doug Hylton and Sebird Hylton.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 18, 2023, from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Gilliland officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends attending the service.
The family will receive friends on Friday morning from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at Loving Funeral Home.
The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to First Christian Church, 231 E. Fudge Street, Covington VA 24426.
