RADFORD – The Alleghany Cougars were back on the green on Monday afternoon where they finished sixth in their Three Rivers District golf match at the Pete Dye River Course of Virginia Tech.
Alleghany shot a 380 as team and finished in seventh place last Thursday in the school’s first ever athletic event at the Olde Mill Golf Resort, improved on their performance as a team with a score of 372.
Leading the way for the Cougars was Haden Spinks who finished with an individual team best 86. Spinks had an 11-shot improvement from last Thursday were finished with a 97.
Also improving on their outing from last week for Alleghany, Landon Arritt who finished with an 89, three shots better than his match from Thursday. Meanwhile, Chris Harden, finished six shots better from his first outing last week finishing with score of 98 at the Pete Dye River Course. Chase DePriest also scored for the Cougars as he finished with a 99.
For the second district match in row, the Floyd County Buffaloes walked away with the win as they shot a day’s best 322. Payton Mason and Isiah Cantrell paced the winners by shooting a 79.
The Buffaloes held off match hosts Radford Bobcats who finished in second with a 325. Hunter Crist led the Bobcats with an individual match best 74, finishing just two over par. Crist’s performance earned him the match medalist honors. Lucas Beeler wasn’t far off from his teammate as he finished with a 79.
James River will host the next district match on Thursday at the Botetourt Golf and Swim Club.
