Jacks rip 16 hits in second straight win

WAYNESBORO – Six batters in the lineup for the Covington Lumberjacks (15-14) had a pair of hits in the teams 9-5 victory over the Waynesboro Generals that saw 16 hits from the Jacks offense. 

 Michael Pavelchak, Victor Sanchez, Chenar Brown, Jackson Toberman, Gregory Miranda, and Gavin Cancio pushed across 12 of Covington’s 16 hits in their victory on Tuesday, July 11th. Sanchez, Toberman, and Miranda each had solo home runs.

 The game’s difference was a four-run seventh inning from Covington. With a 3-1 lead the Lumberjacks improved their lead to 7-1 as it all started with Toberman’s second home run of the year. Cancio, Luke Smith, and Edinson Renteria Jr. would each add RBIs in the inning.

 Jacob Havern pitched a solid outing on the mound for Covington as he earned his first win of the year. While Havern did give up six hits, he only allowed one run, and struck out a season-high nine batters. Christopher Groenemans earned his first save after tossing 1.1 innings out of the bullpen. Groenemans allowed one run on two hits and struck out one. 

 Waynesboro had 11 hits in the loss, but also left 11 on base. Sean Shelly led the Generals with a three-hit performance at the plate, while Shelly and Alex Miller each led the team with a pair of RBIs.
