WINCHESTER – Playing in their fifth game in the last three days, the Covington Lumberjacks (13-14) were handed their fourth straight defeat following a 13-4 loss to the Winchester Royals.

After falling behind 4-0 through the first three innings, Covington scored a pair of runs in the fifth and sixth innings to tie the game.

In his only hit of the game Edinson Renteria Jr. had the game-tying RBI single in the top of the sixth inning for the Lumberjacks.

As it seemed momentum was all on the side of Covington, Winchester in the home half of the sixth inning would push across nine runs.

The nine run sixth inning would prove to be the difference maker in the game as the Royals would hold the Lumberjacks scoreless the rest of the way.

Chandler Ballenger and Jack Hay played a big part in the nine-run inning for Winchester as they each had two-run base hits.

The Royals had five players in their lineup with two or more RBIs as Haden Madagan playing for his hometown Winchester team led his club with three RBI’s.

While the Lumberjacks had as many hits as the Royals with 11, the team left eight on base. The Jacks had a trio of batters with two hits each: Gabriel Miranda, Logan Braunschweig, and Luke Smith. Renteria Jr., Smith, and Michael Pavelchak each had RBI’s.

For the first time this season Covington gave up 10 or more runs in back-to-back games. The Lumberjacks gave up 10 runs in the second game of their doubleheader on Friday, July 7th to the Culpeper Cavaliers.
