The YMCA Summer Bash that was held on June 10th brought in many local vendors, a bouncy house, face-painting, 20 pizzas, and lots of games and activities for kids. Logan Jefferson, front desk attendant at the YMCA, spoke more on their second annual summer bash that took place both inside and outside of the facility.
“We had started it last year. Last year, there wasn’t that many people here, but this year, it’s a lot more people… and we’re having AAU basketball.” In the parking lot, the Fender Benders, a live local band, stood just outside the front doors, singing and playing instruments to familiar tunes, like the late Keith Whitley’s “Don’t Close Your Eyes.” Venturing inside, there were wall-to-wall kids playing, vendors selling goods, a community yard sale happening in another room whose monies went to support Y programming, such as the Wellness Center and YMCA Early Learning Center.
As kids laughed and played in the lobby, a car show was going on outside, drawing in a large crowd of enthusiasts. Men and women alike conversed by the impressive display of older and newer models, talking engines and horsepower as younger kids played inside the large, castle-shaped bouncy house nearby. A few smaller children were getting their faces painted with mom while their dad took a stroll through the parking lot.
R. Fralin and Associates sponsored the event and Ray Keen was responsible for the stunning fireworks display that capped off the YMCA’s Summer Bash this year.
