ELLISTON, VA – For the second year in a row the Eastern Montgomery Mustangs boys’ soccer team once again prevailed victorious over the Bath County Chargers in the Pioneer District tournament championship match following their 5-1 victory.

Talon Bruce, who scored a goal in last year’s district tournament final for Eastern Montgomery led all scorers on Monday with a two-goal performance.

Eastern Montgomery scored all five of their goals in the first half, including three of them in final six minutes. Jon Ruiz put the first goal on the scoreboard early on via a penalty kick.

Prior to the district tournament final, Bath County had been rolling winning five of their previous six games. Their one goal was the teams’ fewest amount of goasl since their loss to the Auburn Eagles on April 11th. Carter Hooker set up the teams only goal for Andrew Turner in the second half.

Despite the loss for Bath County, they have earned a home playoff game as they will host a Class 1, Region C quarterfinal match on Thursday against the same Auburn team who held them to their fewest number of goals in over a month.

Team   1  2  Ttl

BCHS  0  1   1

EMHS  5  0   5

Goals – BC: Turner. EM: Bruce 2, Amaya, Ruiz, and Underwood.
